Going shopping in the supermarket when you are hungry is not a sensible option. Studies have found that you will inevitably buy high-calorie food without knowing it. A study conducted by Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University found that this effect lasted for a while and was not limited to the meal at the time of hunger.

In order to confirm this view, the researchers did two experiments. In the study, candy, salty snacks, and red meat were considered high-calorie foods, and fruits, vegetables, and chicken breast were considered low-calorie foods.
The first trial told participants not to eat anything 5 hours before starting the study. Before the trial began, researchers distributed cookies to some of the 68 participants to ease hunger. Then, they were allowed to shop in a simulated online store. The results showed that those hungry people tend to pick high-calorie foods.
The second study was an actual shopping study. The researchers tracked 82 people who went shopping in the supermarket. These people were randomly arranged to buy things during the day when they were hungry or full. The results once again proved that hungry people will buy more high-calorie foods.
What these studies tell us
If you want to lose weight, then the first step should be not to diet, especially to omit a meal without eating (such as the so-called no-living, or even premature eating). This method will stimulate the body's survival instinct, strengthen the desire to eat, and once restrained, not only will eat more, but also specialize in high-calorie foods.
