Samsung Electronics Releases Health Tracking Wristband Products

South Korea's Samsung Electronics further entered the wearable technology device market and released a wristband product on Wednesday that said it can display a range of real-time health and fitness information.

The company announced at a media event in San Francisco that the newly released "investigation" device - Simband can be used to continuously measure body temperature, blood oxygen levels, exercise and other indicators.

Ram Fish, vice president of Samsung's Digital Health Division, said the "smart" wristband prototype is not intended for sale, but will be the "foundation" of third-party developers, developing "optical, acoustic and electronic sensor" devices.

"We want to introduce external ideas," said Young Sohn, president and chief strategy officer of Samsung's Device Solutions division.

While Samsung disclosed Simband, it is said that Apple is also developing its own wrist device to compete in the field of wearable devices.

According to Samsung executives, Simband has a battery that can be recharged while the wearer is quiet, plus Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
