Nano silver environmental health research progress

Liu Sijin, the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made new progress in changing intracellular epigenetic information in nano-silver. Relevant research results have recently been published online in Biomaterials. The team found that low-toxic concentrations of nanosilver exposed red blood cell precursor cells, which inhibited the activity of histone methylase on the one hand and reduced two sites on H3 by binding to histone H3 on the other hand (K4/K79) The level of methylation associated with gene activation results in a significant decrease in the binding rate of RNA polymerase at the red protein gene locus, thereby inhibiting the expression of the hemoglobin gene. This work reveals the molecular biological mechanisms of the biological effects of nanosilver at low toxicity concentrations from an epigenetic perspective.

Nanosilver is one of the largest artificial nanomaterials in the world in terms of production and use. Due to its excellent antibacterial properties, nanosilver is widely used in all aspects of daily life and health care, so its potential environmental and health risks are also receiving more and more attention.

To gain insight into the environmental health risks of nanosilver exposure, the team systematically summarized the pathways by which nanosilver enters organisms and the distribution of tissues in organisms, the interaction of nanosilver with biomolecules, the pathway by which nanosilver enters cells, and Research status and progress in the biological mechanism of effects, and prospects for future research.
