PPR is a type of acute contact infectious disease caused by Paramyxoviridae measles virus. It mainly affects small ruminants, especially goats and sheep. Live sheep trading and transportation are the main channels for the spread of PPR (also known as sheep lice).

From April 17, Hunan will close the live sheep trading market and suspend trading in live sheep.

Close all live sheep trading markets

Starting from April 17, the province will continue to implement measures to limit the movement of live sheep. Livestock and animal husbandry and veterinary departments in various localities should report to the local government as soon as possible to resolutely close down all live sheep trading markets and suspend the trading of live sheep; continue to strictly enforce the prohibition of live sheep from other provinces from being transferred to all provinces and provinces to suspend the transport of live sheep across counties; (City, district) Farms (households) shall not exchange emergency control measures for breeding sheep.

For counties with newly diagnosed or suspected outbreaks, the movement of susceptible animals must be strictly limited. Livestock and animal husbandry and veterinary departments around the country found that trans-provincial and cross-county livelihoods were immediately reported to the provincial bureau in the process of supervision and inspection. After punishment was imposed on the owner according to regulations, live sheep were isolated on the spot for at least 21 days, and laboratory tests were conducted at the same time. After the confirmation of passing, it is allowed to continue the shipment. All costs incurred during this period are borne by the owner.
