C-trapTM (laser diaphragm) latest application case:
Cytoskeletal single molecule visualization

Dynamic changes in cells are the basis for life activities such as polarization, migration and division. These dynamic changes are triggered by physicochemical signals that the cells are subjected to, and eventually converted to mechanical signals that act on the cytoskeleton. The cytoskeleton is extremely plastic and can form bundles or nets, which ultimately determines the morphology of cells, the transport of intracellular substances, and maintains the stability and compliance of cells and tissues. These properties of the cytoskeleton are closely related to its basic structure. There are indirect methods and direct methods for the study of these cytoskeleton. The indirect method is to observe the cells or tissues by fluorescence microscopy. The direct method is a single molecule technique for manipulating the cytoskeleton. LUMICKS' C-TrapTM combines the best of both worlds to truly enable real-time visualization of cytoskeletal research.

Double microspheres pull the fluorescently labeled microtubules to a linear shape, then reduce the force applied to the right microspheres and observe the dynamic changes of the microtubules.

Visualization of DNA conformation changes
The processes of DNA transcription, translation, and repair are not only related to specific enzymatic reactions, but also include changes in the kinetics of DNA itself. DNA "breathing" is a typical DNA movement, which refers to the spontaneous process of DNA helix from double-stranded to two single strands. The open DNA single strand can provide a binding site for the corresponding enzyme. Since this process is very short-lived and spontaneous, a highly sophisticated measurement system is required for research. LUMICKS' C-TrapTM reflects the DNA "breathing" process with its sub-nm spatial resolution.
