Prevention and treatment of termites of cycad pests
Termites that cause harm to cycads are mainly yellow-winged termites and black-winged termites. Yellow-winged termites are nesting in the earth. The entire life is inseparable from the soil. It is a termite termite. The soldier ants are 10.5 to 11 mm long. The head is dark yellow, the upper eyelid is black, and the head and the thoracodorsal plate have a few erect hairs; the back of the abdomen has fewer hairs and more hair on the ventral surface. The soldier ants have a body length of 6.8 to 7 mm, a pale body color, a head oval shape, and a more curved soldier ant on the side edge, and a rounded corner on the back side. Winged adults are 14 to 15.5 mm in length and 24 to 26 mm in length. The chest is brown on the back and has yellow wings. Head broadly ovate; compound eye oblong, dark brown; monocular oval, brownish yellow. The fin scales are larger than the fin scales. Egg white, long oval. The worker ants are 6 to 6.5 mm in length with a reddish-brown head and a light brown-yellow chest and abdomen. Workers' ants are between 4.16 and 4.44 mm in length, and their body color is slightly shallower than that of the worker ants. The remaining forms are basically the same as workers. Sulphur roots and plumes are often harmed, and feeding from the base upwards in the petioles of the plumes results in the death of the plumes. In severe cases, the whole plant dies.
The termites of the black-winged soil termites are 5.44-6.03 mm in length. The head is dark yellow and thin, and the chest and abdomen are pale yellow to grey and white, with dense hair. The back of the head is oval, longer than wide, and the widest point is in the middle and posterior segments of the head. The front of the thoracodorsal plate is narrow at the front and slanted obliquely; the back is wider and looks like an ingot shape from above. Winged adults are 27 to 29 mm in length and 45 to 50 mm in length. The head and chest are dark brown on the back, and the head and abdomen are brownish in color. The first half of the upper lip is orange and the latter half is light orange, with a white horizontal stripe in the middle. Wings dark brown. Body covered with thick hair. Head round, compound eye oval dark brown, single eye is also oval orange yellow. The thoracodorsal plate is slightly narrower than the head, and is wide and narrow at the front, with a small, lightly branched branch behind the leading edge. The fin scales are larger than the fin scales. The worker ants are 4.5 to 6 mm in length with a pale yellow head and a nearly circular shape. Chest and belly gray. The eggs are milky white and oval, approximately 0.7 mm long.
Termite prevention and control can be put in the planting hole before the planting of cycad plants in the appropriate amount of lime or ash, but also in the April to June each year when the termites fly into the trap.
