Prof. Xu Wentao, School of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, Nankai University, said that the key issue and key point to be solved in this research is to design and implement artificial systems that are similar to biological nerve systems and that are compatible with biological nerve signals. The system is very flexible. Based on the above assumptions, the joint research team of China, the United States, and South Korea used flexible organic materials to simulate a human tactile nerve. This artificial sensory nerve consists of three core components: a resistive pressure sensor, an organic ring oscillator, and a synapse transistor. The system first uses a series of susceptors to sense extremely fine pressures and generate corresponding voltage changes, which are then converted into electrical pulse signals by a ring oscillator (artificial nerve fiber). The electrical signals obtained by the multiple ring oscillators are converted into synaptic currents by synaptic transistors and transmitted to the next nerve.

"Functionally speaking, this artificial nerve can well simulate the tactile function of human skin and is compatible with biological neural signals. We preliminary confirmed this compatibility."
