Prevention of severe winter pomegranate seedlings

Saplings of pomegranate young trees refer to the phenomena of dry shrinkage and dead in the branches after wintering. The winter in northern China is cold and dry, with little rain and wind in early spring, and the amount of evaporation is large. The annual growth of pomegranate saplings is large, and the water retention of the pith branches is poor. Therefore, in case of severe winter, it leads to drawing. The following is a brief introduction to the prevention of severe winter plowing of pomegranate young trees. Variety selection should be selected varieties with strong cold resistance, such as red skin sweet No. 1, black seed sweet, green peel sweet No. 1, giant seed honey, Taishan red pomegranate, Tunisia soft seed pomegranate and so on. Some varieties with poor cold resistance cannot be safely wintered when planted in northern regions. Strengthen fertilizer management For saplings planted for 1 to 2 years, phosphorus and potash fertilizers should be added during the growth period from July to September, nitrogen fertilizer should be controlled, and the frequency of watering should be reduced so that new shoots can be stopped in time and the plants can be fully lignified. Timely picking up the heart in mid-August to promptly remove new shoot growth points and control the growth of shoots to promote nutrient accumulation. At the same time, the buds sprouted at the shoots must be removed in time to ensure that the shoots are fully mature and enhance their ability to overwinter. Chemical cold-proof sprayed paclobutrazol 300 times on the leaves in early August to control shoot growth and promote shoots enrichment. After deciduous plants in November, petrolatum was applied to shoot shoots to significantly enhance their ability to resist cold. Spraying the canopy with 5% lime milk from late February to early March of the following year can delay the active period of shoot formation and reduce the evaporation of shoot moisture. To protect the seedlings that were planted in the same year, it is generally possible to bend the young branches in the first ten days of November to prevent the shoots from dehydration and freezing. Generally, the thickness of buried soil is about 30cm, and branches are released from the soil in early March of the following year. Chinese Agricultural Editor
